Mall ZombieHorror Channel's Stewart Bridle decided to take on the undead with the ultimate zombie-chase game, 2.8 Hours Later. Here he tells us of his experience. (Photo by James Koch)

When it comes to a zombie apocalypse I’m pretty much prepared. I've done my research, studied the Romero's, The Fulci's and even sat through Uwe Boll's House Of The Dead. Like any other genre fan I've thought about my survival plan and always keep one eye and ear on rolling 24-hour news channels for the first sign of any undead outbreak. But what happened when I was actually thrown into the situation 'for real', running for my life through the streets of London with slavering zombies hot on my heels as I prayed I’d reach my next safe-house...?

DVD Of The Month - Hatchet 2
By James Whittington
Posted in: Features, Saturday 27th Aug 2011

Hatchet 2 DVD CoverWhen Adam Green unleashed Hatchet at FrightFest 2006, I wager he couldn't have dreamt of the amazing reception the movie got from the audience. This old-school horror was just what hack n' slash movie fans had been waiting for and Victor Crowley, the psycho of the piece become an overnight anti-hero.

Green brought Crowley back to FrightFest last year with the anticipated sequel promising more gore and more thrills. To say he delivers on this promise is an understatement, Hatchet 2 is a wild ride of a movie that perfectly combines humour and horror with lashings of sex and blood-splattered shocks.

Following directly on from the first instalment it's a solid mixture of shocks, slaughtering and big laughs. Yes, you read that corre ... »

Interview With Hobo With A Shotgun Star Rutger Hauer
By James Whittington
Posted in: Features, Wednesday 13th Jul 2011

Rutger HauerIt began as an award winning "fake" Grindhouse trailer that embodied the genre and became an internet sensation via YouTube. Now, Hobo With A Shotgun, director Jason Eisener's affectionate and remarkably authentic tribute to the exploitation movies of the 1970s and 80s, is a full-on, no-holds-barred, kick-ass movie and due in selected UK cinemas on July 15th. Here Hollywood legend Rutger Hauer talks about his role in this, one of the most talked about movies of the year so far.

The reaction to Hobo With A Shotgun has been nothing short of phenomenal – and rightly so.

Rutger Hauer: I'm pleasantly shocked at how well the film's been received, because I really didn't see that coming. I knew that there was quite a following, but the fact that part of ... »

Who Needs Jason? Friday The 13th - The Series On Horror
By James Whittington
Posted in: Features, Wednesday 29th Jun 2011

friday_the_13thDuring the original run of the hit slasher series Friday The 13th, a television show bearing its name was unleashed onto an unsuspecting public. Cleverly entitled Friday The 13th - The Series, it was designed to be an anthology show that would be able to stand by itself and not be connected or confused with the movies that shared its name. A mad idea you might think, but when you sit down and watch the series, you forget any movie connection anyway as it's a smart and rather unique show which has obviously helped and maybe even inspire programs such as The X-Files and Warehouse 13.

Originally broadcast in 1987 it premiered between the cinematic releases of Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives»

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - See Before You Die January 29th 22:55
By James Whittington
Posted in: Features, Wednesday 26th Jan 2011

Leatherface ImageReleased in 1974, Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is without doubt one of the most influential horror movies ever made. Written by Hooper along with Kim Henkel (an actor who had worked with Hooper on his first feature Eggshells) it's the tale of a group of teenagers lost on a sun bleached highway who stumble upon a family of cannibals, one of whom wears a mask made from human flesh and likes to use a chainsaw to catch his food.

Stark, bleak and shocking the movie opens with an open scrawl read by John Larroquette that informs the viewer that this is based on a true story and then cuts to close up shots of the sun and pieces of rotting meat. From here on in the film is a journey into a scorching hell of an existence and one that’s an unforgettable experience.

The Evil Dead Screaming HeadOf all the films to be caught up in the Video Nasty phenomenon of the early 80s, one title stands above all others, Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead.

Completed in 1981 and originally released in the UK (simultaneously in cinema and on video) in 1982 with 49 seconds of cuts, the film hit the Video Nasty list soon after and remained there for sometime. Eventually it was released on video in 1990 where an extra 69 seconds were removed. It wasn't until 2001 when the UK got its first official uncut edition.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. The story of The Evil Dead starts some years back, in 1978 when Raimi, alongside Bruce ... »
