Rapid Turtle Games has announced the release of a game-play trailer for the acclaimed iRequiem - a 2D horror themed shooter taking place in hell, which is depicted as a dark gothic medieval world. October's Grimm Up North horror and sci-fi festival brought the best in genre cinema to the city of Manchester for a second year running and gave fans access to some exclusive movie screenings.

As part of the closing night celebrations, the winners of the festival's Golden Scythe Awards were unveiled, with some of the luck recipients in attendance to pick up their very own statuette. A panel of judges from the online blogging and podcasting community were charged with the task of coming up with the winning entries, having also spoken to festival goers and carefully monitored reactions to the films on the Grimm Up North social networking channels.

Ingrid Pitt, the enigmatic Queen of horror cinema has died, she was 73. A true icon, Ingrid starred in two of Hammer's most celebrated movies, Countess Dracula and The Vampire Lovers. She also appeared in the cult shocker The Wicker Man alongside Edward Woodward. Ingrid also had parts in Where Eagles Dare, The House That Dripped Blood and Who Dares Wins. More recently she appeared in Hammer's contemporary shocker, Beyond The Rave.

We interviewed Ingrid a few years back for this site and that piece will be reposted in tribute to her later in the week. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.

Reflecting a broad taste in film music, The Pearl & Dean survey of the nation's top 100 movie theme tunes has resulted in the top spot being secured by Ravel's Bolero as featured in the movie 10. The Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) has banned the DVD re-release of the highly controversial 1978 horror film I Spit On Your Grave. UK fans of the infamous cult film, originally released under the name Day of the Woman in 1978 and later re-titled to I Spit on Your Grave, will be able to purchase the ultimate collector's edition on DVD and Blu-ray as of this week. However Irish fans of the cult video nasty will be prohibited from purchasing locally.

The decision to ban the DVD re-release of the cult film was due to the film depicting "acts of gross violence and cruelty (including mutilation and torture) towards humans." The film has gained a reputation as an extremely graphic and violent film as well ... »

Panic Button is shooting now in Wales with director Chris Crow at the helm. Crow made his feature debut with horror/thriller Devil's Bridge in 2009 and reunites with DOP Simon Poulter for this new Brit-shocker. Capcom has announced that the release date for Dead Rising 2 has been brought forward for the European and Australian markets. From Friday September 24th Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers in these territories will be the first in the world to slice, smash, burn, shoot, kick, stab, chop, throw, explode, run down and ridicule the thousands of zombies that have infested Fortune City. A new horror magazine is set to worm its way into horror fans hearts later next month. Shock Horror magazine is a bi-monthly paid for horror magazine with a focus on UK and Indie Horror as well as classic film titles and icons. The first issue will be available to purchase worldwide August 11th 2010 from the official Shock Horror website.

Issue 1 will have a print run of 1000 copies, which the creators will be looking to increase as the success of the magazine continues to grow. The Horror Channel has scooped the prize for Best Themed Channel at this year's Freesat Awards, marking the very best in channels and services available on the free-to-air digital satellite TV service.

It was selected from a field including BET, B4U Music, Gala TV and Wedding TV by an expert judging panel comprising senior representatives from the broadcast industry. The announcement was made at a ceremony hosted by comedian Ed Byrne at London’s Delfina Galleries.

The judges commended the Horror Channel for the following reasons:

Capcom has confirmed that it has partnered with Playboy magazine to have content from the iconic publication featured in its forthcoming title Dead Rising 2, scheduled for release later this year for the Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and PC platforms.
