|
| Sybil Danning is one of the most respected genre artists working today. Many of her movies have gained cult status and one of her best, Howling II is being shown at the moment here on Zone Horror. We caught up with this busy lady to bring you this exclusive interview.
ZONE HORROR: You grew up on various Army bases, what was this nomadic style life like for you?
SYBIL DANNING: I actually enjoyed it. I loved seeing new places, meeting new people. Still today, I love travelling. I’ve been in many countries and while I love coming home to what I call my home now, Los Angeles, I always look forward to packing up and experiencing a new town, state or country. I think it has to do with being able to “adapt” which I learned early on. I see every “move” in life as an adventure. Maybe that’s why I call my company “Adventuress Productions.”
ZONE HORROR: You left school aged 14 to help support you family. How much stress did this put upon on you?
SYBIL DANNING: At the

Lois Winstone: I guess I’ve been working as a performer and artist for some years now spreading out creative vibes is what I love to do. |
| Kim Newman is without doubt one of the UK’s leading genre writers with an impeccable track record of articles, books and DVD commentaries. We caught up with him to get his views on the state of horror in general and his plans for the future.
ZH: You’ve been a writer for quite some time, how did you get started in such a business?
KN: Seriously, I couldn’t get a job. I graduated (B.A. English, University of Sussex) in 1980, and spent three years applying for jobs and not getting anywhere. During that time, I did various homemade theatre projects, worked on fanzines, used a single contact with a regional film theatre to get a gig writing notes handed out at screenings and promotional booklets, kept copious notes on every film saw and sat in a bed-sit counting pennies. Eventually (1982), I sent sample reviews to the Monthly Film Bulletin and started getting a trickle of work from them – the MFB melded into Sight & Sound ten years later, and I still work for them. Then, I sent fanzine clippings an

We tracked down this busy and in demand all rounder to discover his influences and his plans for future projects. By the way, if you like what you read check out his movies Goth and Death Factory which are showing to great acclaim here on Zone Horror.
ZH: Have you always been interested in the movie industry?
BRAD SYKES: Well, when I was growing up, my parents took to me to see a lot of films – mostly sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure. One of the first films that left a big impression on me as a kid was Clash of the Titans – I can still remember that movie scene-for-scene. Around age ten or eleven, I started buying magazines like Fangoria and Cinefantastique, learning about filmmakers and discovering all kinds of obscure movies. A few years later, I bought John Russo’s “Making Movies, which was probably the first technical book about filmmak

By James Whittington

|
| One of the big hits of the Zone Horror Frightfest 2006 was Jordan Barker’s paranormal chiller The Marsh. Sony will be releasing the movie onto DVD this month so we thought you’d like to know what Mr Barker had to say when we caught up with him last year.
ZH: Can you set up the plotline for The Marsh?
JORDAN BARKER: The Marsh concerns a famous children’s author, a sort of J.K. Rowling or even Tim Burton kind of writer who becomes stressed out and decides to go on vacation. She rents a house that for some reason seems familiar and becomes wrapped in a supernatural murder mystery.
ZH: Was there a big budget difference between The Marsh and the first movie you directed?
JORDAN BARKER: Oh yeah (laughs). The first movie I did, (My Brother’s Keeper) the budget was around $350,000 which is still a good sum of money and we were able to do lots, we shot on film and probably had more than enough. For this one we had $4 -$5 million but it didn’t really feel that different.

|
| Robert Englund is one of the most recognisable horror actrs of the last twenty years. Even though he has been covered in latex for most of his movie outings his distinct acting style and sinister mannerisms helped to create one of the greatest anti-heroes cinema has ever experienced, Freddy Krueger. We caught up with him in Manchester at the recent Collectormania event for this exclusive interview.
ZH: Could you start by just telling us what you’re doing over here?
ROBERT ENGLUND: I’m here for my friend, Jason who normally has me here for his Collectormania in Milton Keynes, and I love it because we always stay in this little village in Milton Keynes in the shadow of Cleo Lane and Johnny Dankworth, I love Jazz, and there’s some great walking and hiking there and there’s a great pub! I’ve been doing this for years since Freddy Vs Jason came out. It was such a huge hit after all the other Nightmare on Elm Street films and I hadn’t really been seeing the fans for a while for I was doing family films
