The Ultimate round-up

Well as the dust settles and normal sleep patterns return its time to sit back and reflect on FrightFest 2007 and more importantly what did it do for horror fans like myself. Well to say it delivered is like saying Joe Lynch perspires slightly (anyone who saw how hot he got before they showed his movie Wrong Turn 2 will get that gag!) Seriously this was the event that catered for the horror fan in everyway. We had Werewolves, Survival Horror, Zom...

What day is it?

Phew! Well what can I say? FrightFest 2007 surely was one of the best of its kind, ever. The Gang of Four (Alan, Paul, Ian and Greg) delivered to us horror fans a menu of such deadly delights that it makes you think how could they possibly top this one? Well, apparently plans are already afoot and Mr Jones did tease us saying that he and the crew had something in mind but he is holding this info tight to his manly chest. I wonder if he’ll take bribes? Well Zone Horror was there every step of the way and tomorrow (seeing as though I spent most of today sleeping and travelling!) I’ll ...

Well there you go Day Watch split the audience right down the middle, well those that I talked to anyway. Myself? Well I thought it had a lot to offer and continued the story nicely. The only place to see it though is in a movie house, this movie is very cinematic. Spiral on the other hand captivated and astonished the fans proving Adam Green is no one-trick pony. We shot an interview with Adam and Joe Lynch (director of Wrong Turn 2) which just has to be seen to be believed. Look out for it very soon. As for now well we’re onto the last movie of the festival, Juan Antonio Bayona’s T...

Well after the zombie madness earlier today this afternoon promises shocks of a very different kind. The main one for me is Adam Green’s Spiral a movie that is, according to Adam, very different from his last FrightFest movie which was the hack n’ slash masterpiece Hatchet. We know Adam is really nervous about showing this movie but I think from what I’ve seen so far that he has nothing to worry about. Day Watch, the movie which follows Spiral is another much anticipated fright flick and is the sequel to the hit Russian chiller Night Watch. I really hope the producers can deliver as ...

I’ve just returned from one of the most bizarre and hilarious events I’ve ever been invited to. The Zombie Walk, which was organised to coincide with the premier of the movie The Zombie Diaries, seems to have been a huge success. Hundreds of people got into the spirit of the event and were all made up to look like rotting members of the living dead. No one was safe from this marauding, brain hungry crowd, even people on buses and in diners soon found themselves face-to-face with a member of the undead. Everyone enjoyed the experience and I really can’t wait to see when the next The Zombi...

If there’s one thing that FrightFest guarantees its audience and that’s to expose them to some of the most controversial product around. They make no bones about it, not every movie will be for everyone, but exists to open viewers eyes to new and exciting genres, themes and directors. Something we at Zone Horror constantly strive to do. We aim to show you features from some of the most talented and debated movie makers around. Look at tonight’s line up as an example, there are three movies voted to be shown by you as part of our Your Say Sunday strand. And what an excellent choice you’...

One of the world’s most talked about horror movie directors Uwe Boll will be here at FrightFest this afternoon to introduce two of his most recent productions Postal and Seed. Both have caused ripples across the horror community so it will be interesting to see the audience’s reaction and his answers in the Q+ A sessions that have been arranged. Remember this is the guy who challenged critics to a boxing fight last year so this could be an interesting afternoon!

What a guy!!

I've just come from the world premier of Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2 which was sponsored by Zone Horror and have to say it had the greatest of the festival so far. This guy has done a superb sequel and we can only wait and wonder to see what this very visual director does next. Everyone we spoke to thought it was a cut above the usual stuff you get in sequels and we have to agree this is quality horror from a guy who knows his stuff and delivers in spades.

Wow! What an afternoon we’ve had here at FrightFest 2007. Not only were we chilled by the quite brilliant movie Cold Prey but we had the chance to meet the director of the movie Roar Uthaug, one of the nicest guys on the circuit. We had a long chat about this marvellous movie which is a cross between Friday the 13th and The Shining, which incidentally is one of his favourite movies. It was also his birthday and the reception he got was probably the best present he could have wished for! Then it was onto Joshua a very suspenseful and artistic piece that kept the audience guessing throughou...

The sun has decided to make an appearance at this year’s FrightFest celebrations, maybe it’s because it’s a special day at this world renowned event. Apart from premiers of such long awaited movies as the ice cold chiller Cold Prey and the Hitchcockian Joshua, Zone Horror is sponsoring one of the most anticipated movies of the whole 5 day event, Wrong Turn 2. This sequel to the much admired original is directed by first timer Joe Lynch a guy who has so much enthusiasm for the horror genre that it’s not difficult to be swept away by this charismatic person. Check out the report using th...

This afternoon we witnessed one of the scariest movies that any of us had seen in a very long time. 1408 puts John Cusack back on the map as an A-Class actor and the work of Stephen King back to the horror loving cinema audiences. The FrightFest crowd lapped up every minute of this classy shocker and were treated to a very interesting Q+A session from director Mikael Hafstrom. Though the movie P2 wasn't shown due to technical reasons it was replaced by the cracking cult shocker Teeth. Another one that got the crowd talking and whilst they were waiting for th emost anticipate movie of the ev...

Well here we are half way through day two of FrightFest and already the fans have had the chance to meet some of the most exciting people in horror, besides the Zone Horror crew that is! Hatchet director Adam Green performed his very first live commentary for his respected hack n’ slash masterpiece which the whole audience enjoyed immensely. Then it was onto the premier of the much talked about Russian horror Sword Bearer. Talking of premiers tonight on Zone Horrorat 10.55pm you can catch the first showing of the cult movie Scarecrows. Right, I’m off with Emily Booth to see Signal, more...

Feeling sheepish

It may have been raining in old London town yesterday but FrightFest 2007 got off to a bright shiny start with loyal festival goers getting the chance to rub shoulders with some of the most famous and talented people in the horror industry as well as some sheep! Yes folks you heard me (ha ha, get it?) correctly yesterday saw the premier of Black Sheep the new movie from New Zealand director Jonathon King who brought along with him two rather blood stained examples of his work! (fear not members of the RSPCA no animals were harmed in this smart piece of PR!) Look out for the snaps coming soon t...

The one thing I love about FrightFest is that you get to meet loads of people from the horror entertainment industry. Now when I say people I just don’t mean actors, I mean folks like directors, producers, writers and even SFX people. One person I’m hoping to bump into is writer James Moran. Now this guy wrote one of the best horror/comedy movies in ages, Severance and is one of the most sought after scribes in the country. In fact he’s recently been picked to write for two of the hottest shows on TV, Doctor Who and Torchwood. He’s also got lots of other scripts on the go; let’s hope...

Return of the green man

One of my favourite movies from last years FrightFest was Adam Greens hack n’ slash homage Hatchet. It has an all star horror cast which includes Kane Hodder, Robert Englund and Tony Todd. It’s a cracking movie that has ran into constant trouble with the US film censors so Adam was invited back this year with Hatchet to perform a live commentary alongside the audience. All of this will be filmed by The Works for inclusion on the DVD release and will happen on Friday at 10.30am (ish). Adam will also be on hand to preview his new movie, Spiral which gets its first showing on Monday at 3.45pm...

One of the main events at this year’s FrightFest is the Zombie Walk which is due to happen Bank Holiday Monday prior to the showing of the much anticipated gut muncher movie The Zombie Diaries. This film is classed as The Blair Witch meets Day of the Dead, not a bad combination but can it truly capture the classic Italian zombie movies of the 70’s and 80’s? I thought of this event as Zone Horror is having its very own undead celebration at Halloween when we premier three classic Italian zombie movies; Zombie Flesh Eaters Parts 2 and 3 plus Zombie Creeping Flesh. Now we get loads of re...

So much choice

I've been asked by many viewers which movies I am looking forward to most of all at this years FrightFest and I have to tell you it’s a really hard thing to do. There’s an abundance of variety this year. I guess my main one is Wrong Turn 2 the sequel to one of the best horror movies in the last five years. It seems to have taken the idea in a novel direction and anything with Henry Rollins in surely is a must. The plot is pretty cool six contestants must spend six days in a simulated post-apocalyptic wasteland and the winner will walk away with $100,000. Located in a remote part of Wes...
