Well we all came out of Martyrs a bit stunned last night as it lived up to the ever growing hype of being a really strong piece of work. The imagery and content was controversial to say the least and the powerful ending caused a lot of debate. Deliberately oblique in places it gave the viewer a story of hope against everything that is evil; well that’s how I saw it anyway! We chatted to director Pascal Laugier just before the screening and afterwards wondered how this quiet talking Frenchman could produce such a compelling yet brutal movie.
But back to today and unbelievably we’ve arrived at day five of this blood drenched festival. Apart from the much talked about premiere’s of Mirrors and Death Race another movie that stands out is Kerry Anne Mullaney’s The Dead Outside. This Scottish shocker about a mutated airborne virus is a new one to me so can’t wait to try something that I know little about. I like surprises, sometimes!
Talking of which Ian is promising to put his kilt on again today, oh deary me!
