A gang of young adults find themselves at the mercy of a strange beast in 13 HRS, the new movie from Jonathan Glendening. The man himself is on stage as I type doing a quick Q+A with a couple of members of the cast. The film itself is a traditional "monster on the lose" sort of a thing but with some nice contemporary twists and some sibling friction. The cast bond well and the creature itself looks pretty cool even though this isn't the biggest budgeted movie around. What it has is strong special effects done in the old school way. There's some great moments of tension, a good chunk of the movie is played in the cramped space of a loft where the characters battle not only the evil down below but each others inner demons, and working out just who is next for the chop is good fun!
Later today the Horror Channel is sponsoring one of the most talked about movies of the entire festival, Steven R. Monroe's new take on the infamous exploitation shocker, I Spit On Your Grave.
