Before we had the UK premiere of Final Destination 5 we were treated to a few scenes from up and coming Brit horror flick Cockney's Vs Zombies. With a cast that includes Michelle Ryan, Honor Blackman, Alan Ford and Richard Briers (yes, him from The Good Life) this looks like and truly awesome piece of undead cinema, packed with gore drenched humour and blood-splattered set-pieces. Writer James Moran assured us his zombies shamble and stagger with none of this running nonsense we've seen some cinematic zombies do. Fingers crossed the FrightFest team are able to show it at Glasgow FrightFest early next year.
After a brief filmed introduction from Tony Todd, Final Destination 5 - 3D came our way. I'm not a huge fan of movie sequels but this one really did press all the right buttons with plenty of elaborate death sequences and some very imaginative 3D photography. It follows the same basic plot as all the others, namely a group of people cheat death (this time by surviving a bridge collapse) but soon one by one they begin to meet grisly deaths, each one more convoluted than the last. With a crowd pleasing pay off at the end, Final Destination 5 had the crowd cheering and applauding.
I wonder if The Theatre Bizarre, which is showing next, will have the same effect as its a very different kind of horror movie?
