Arrow Video has announced a deluxe edition of The House By The Cemetery, featuring a brand new HD restoration along with HOURS of extras.
Packaged with four artwork covers including original posters and a cover illustration by artist Rick Melton, a double sided artwork poster and a collector's booklet featuring new writing on the film by critic and author Calum Waddell.
Following City Of The Living Dead and The Beyond, (made at breakneck pace in 1980 and 1981 respectively) The House By The Cemetery was unleashed in 1981 and was the final part in Fulci's informal 'Gates Of Hell' Trilogy. Each film explores the possibility of gateways to another world, a hell where the undead can pass through to our world and surreal chaos can ensue. Stephen Thrower, Fulci's biographer notes, "Fulci brings to the spook-show a relentless physicality. These 'ghosts' do more than just flap at you; they wrestle you, they pin you to the wall, they chew you. They're a wonderfully exciting combination of ghost and zombie, borrowing the best from each. And it's all about the imagery: Fulci hurls us into a seething carnival of blood, worms, entrails, popped eyeballs, squished brains and decaying flesh." Celebrated horror-auteur Eli Roth comments that Fulci, "in a span of 2 or 3 years changed the course of horror forever"
Restored in Rome and London by an Award-winning team, The House By The Cemetery has not looked this good since its original theatrical release! James White, Restoration Supervisor, comments: "The House By The Cemetery appears in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 with mono 2.0 sound. The film was transferred and graded in HD resolution from the original 35mm negative elements and the master was supplied by LVR.
Restoration work was completed at Deluxe Soho, London. Picture issues such as dirt, light scratches and debris as well as warped, damaged, or unstable frames were removed or improved upon using a combination of HD-DVNR and MTI systems. Both English and Italian audio tracks will occasionally exhibit drifting synch issues, but this is correct as per the film's original release. Some minor technical issues remain, in keeping with the condition of the transferred materials, but every effort has been made to present The House By The Cemetery in the best condition possible for this release."
The Limited Edition Blu-Ray and Dual Format Edition will be released 7th May.
