Remakes of classic or cult horror titles are always a bit of a sticky topic when discussing them with horror fans. So when we heard that there was to be a remake of the Bill Lustig shocker Maniac a lot of eyebrows were raised. Eyebrows raised even higher when it was announced that Elijah Wood would be taking on the role of scalp-hunting Frank.
Manic 2012 edition is shot entirely from the perspective of the killer and we only see his face when shown in a reflection or in photographs, CCTV etc. Quite a neat idea and for those of you who feared that it would lack the intensity and violence the original became known for will be pleased to hear that this actually raises the bar in the violence stakes!
The soundtrack nods to the works of Argento and seeing as this is from the people behind Switchblade Romance, Mirrors and Piranhna you know what to expect, but beware its is gritty and raw.
