It may be the final day of FrightFest The 13th but there's nothing to be down about as there's two UK premieres, a European Premiere, a Preview and a World Premiere still to look forward too plus plenty more surprises from the FrightFest boys.
The main attraction on screen one this morning is the showing of American Mary, the brand new movie from Jen and Sylvia Soska, the ladies that gave the world Dead Hooker In Trunk. This much talked about piece of horror has been the talk of the festival and I know for one can’t wait to see what they’ve created.
Starring Katharine Isabelle from the acclaimed Ginger Snaps series, this metaphor for the Soskas own journey through the independent film industry follows medical student Mary Mason as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted by the school she studies at and the established doctors she once admired. The allure of easy money to solve her debt problems sends Mary into the twilight world of body modification and underground surgeries where obsessed flesh artists will pay anything and go through any pain to get their unusual procedures done illegally. But Mary soon finds at a shocking cost that her new ‘profession’ leaves more marks on her own psyche than on her freakish clientele.
Expect rave reviews online as soon as its finished showing.
