Billy Chainsaw - New Art Exhibition Announced
By James W, Sunday 2nd December 2012

Billy ChainsawFor many years, more years than he cares to remember, artist Billy Chainsaw has been fascinated by the unknown - in its myriad forms, the magical weirdness of the number 23 and masks. Now he presents his work at a special exhibition running until Wednesday 5th December and then from Monday 10th December till Saturday 22nd December 2012, Monday to Saturday, 12 to 6pm at The Horse Hospital, London.

X - More Than A Journey Into The Unknown
is the first in a series of shows inspired by this fascination. Where do the unexpected portals lead? Who are the real people behind the masks? This inaugural solo exhibition explores such questions via a collection of mixed media works… yet leaves the viewer to form their own conclusions.

"A true legend in horror circles and with a curious eye for the darkest detail, Mr. Billy Chainsaw's foray into creating his own twisted artworks was of course just a matter of time. Clearly influenced by his love of the moving image he has produced an innovative body of work that references everything from cartoon surrealism, tattoo art, 50s sleaze, trash art, pop art, William Burroughs and Lucha Libre, through to the cinema of transgression. We are proud to emblazon the walls of the Horse Hospital for the month of December with a splendid solo exhibition of his inaugural work." Roger K. Burton (Horse Hospital Artistic Director)

Words from his patrons:
"I am fascinated by Billy Chainsaw's work for a variety of reasons, one of them being that it is not often someone draws a certain amount of inspiration from maestros like Warhol, Basquiat, Rauschenberg etc. but manages to create something unique and fresh - adding themes and techniques not seen in this context before. He creates feats of colour and content, while avoiding the clichés so often found in pop-inspired art."
Billie Ray Martin (Electribe 101/Disco Atavisto Records)

"Billy Chainsaw's artwork mixes the macabre with the innocent, creating a compulsive thrill which makes you keep going back to look at it. It has a nightmarish quality, like looking inside the mind of a frightened child, but a beauty in the juxtaposition of imagery and the graffiti-like rawness of execution. Despite the darkness of many of his themes, he always treats his subject matter with gentleness and a charming sense of humour."

Another tasty piece from 88 Films, Popcorn.

Popcorn Bluray cover

The latest title in the superb Slasher Classics line from 88 Films is a true legend of the genre, Popcorn.

Canada took the slasher movie to the next level when the country produced the trendsetting Black Christmas in 1974, at the height of what has become known as 'Canuxploitation'. Later shockers from the nation of moose, Mounties and maple syrup included the equally effective My Bloody Valentine (1981) and Happy Birthday to Me (1981) but by the turn of the eighties the terror-trend was drying up... at least until the plasma-spilling shocks of Popcorn in 1991!

This is Canadian slice and dice action par excellence - and returns to the good old days of splashe...

In this oddball mix of sci-fi, horror and political espionage, a mysterious healer appears in the abode of a leading American senator who finds that his terminally ill son is quickly cured of his leukaemia. The appreciative politician opts to keep this puzzling pres...
