Booth' Blog: Horror's Haunted Halloween Season Is Coming...
By Emily Booth, Saturday 10th October 2015

EB Image 1I know us Horror fiends need no reminding, Halloween will be upon us by the end of the month, a festival that gets bigger every year, with the costumes getting more political and the parties even more inventive! Horror Channel is no different with a special two week long film season showing spooky celluloid of the spectral kind every night at 9pm in the run up to Samhain. There’s so much on offer here I’m going to concentrate on the first week of Haunted Halloween to get you all in the mood for a good scare!

The season includes five film premieres and kicks off with An American Haunting on Saturday 17th. The movie is based on the real life court case of The Bell Witch – the only time in U.S history a ghost was acknowledged as a murderer! Back in 1818 Tennessee, the Bell Family were cursed and haunted by the ‘Bell Witch’, largely taking possession of their eldest daughter Betsy Bell putting her through the mill with violent nightly abuse. Scary and shocking this is beautifully shot with a great cast including Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek. An American Haunting, a network premiere Saturday 17th 9pm. Then on Sunday 18th sees the UK TV premiere of Dark Summer starring the brilliant It Follows star Keir Gilchrist. A very modern ghost story that sees cyber stalking clash with the supernatural. A teenage boy is under house arrest for stalking fellow classmate Mona, but in a strange and tragic turn of events, it is he who then becomes stalked by her in return….

So that’s next weekend sorted. Haunted Halloween continues every night at 9pm with Monday’s ghost hunting reality show gone wrong Grave Encounters, Tuesday’s perverse serial killing puppet master in Cassadaga, Wednesday sees the amazing surreal multi layered The Abandoned before Thursday’s supernatural hit Stir Of Echoes starring the one and only Kevin Bacon!

The following weekend sees two network premieres, so join us again on Friday 23rd October at 9pm for the sequel, Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming where this time Rob Lowe stars as a PTSD war veteran on a mission to bring peace to those lives he mistakenly ended…..

Then on Saturday comes the return of the most haunted house in movie history (as well as real life!) with Amityville 3, yes the ghosts of the past are back to claim more victims…. That’s our Haunted Halloween Network premiere Saturday 24th at 9pm.

The season continues right up until our climax The Possession on Halloween night at 9pm – more on that next time!

The Boneyard - Blu-ray review

Cover for The Boneyard Bluray from 88 Films

The Boneyard

88 Films

Certificate 18

I pride myself in owning a large library of horror movies, whether it be on tape, laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray and now 4K editions but for some reason The Boneyard has escaped being a member of my collection. Now this has finally been put right thanks to 88 Films who have given this under the radar schlocker the Blu-ray treatment.

The plot is straight forward as a cop, a psychic and two coroners try and halt a possible "zombie children" outbreak in a mortuary. But this is just the start of their problems.

Way, way, way over-the-top in style and substance, The Boneyard is a joyous and go...
