LATEST | FEATURES | INTERVIEWS | NEWS | FRIGHTFEST | REVIEWS Booth's Blog: Behind The Scenes On A Horror Channel Shoot
By Emily Booth, Saturday 15th November 2014
I’ve been presenting the continuity links for Horror Channel for years now and is a duty I take seriously and thoroughly enjoy, so for this weeks blog, as we have a whole new sexy and exciting new look, I thought I’d share some behind the scenes snaps of the brand new studio as well as divulge exactly what’s involved on my Horror Channel shoots.
So each month I get all the schedules for what’s on the channel and get advised as to what to promote each night in my links. I then research and write the scripts making sure the timing is incredibly accurate for each link. I love writing for Horror as I get to be my usual cheeky self as well get people excited about the incredible film premieres we have on each month.
Then we need to discuss my look for the shoot. So me, my fabulous make up artists Justina and Franni (or MUA’s as known in the industry!) and our creative director Joni (it’s mainly girls on Horror!) figure out what clothes would look good against the backgrounds. We might go for a traditional gothy vibe, or a retro pin up look, a glam red carpet look or an urban street look (as a female I obviously love this process)
This month it was even more exciting as we were filming in the sumptuous Murder Mile Studios that my friend Amber Erlandsson of NemHain death metal fame now owns. I actually met her whilst filming Cradle of Fear, we’re all connected in the horror world!
I have to leave my house at 6am as it takes a good 3 hours in rush hour traffic to make it up to London, then its copious coffee, gossip, hair and make up from 9 till 11am! I must say I feel really in my element when I’m filming, it brings out the vampy diva in me and working with the small intimate team (some of whom I’ve worked with on Horror since ’07) it really does feel like the best job in the world! I must give a shout out to our Creative director who actually made – with wood, screws and paint, the gorgeous Twin Peaks-esque ‘antler trees’ you can see in the shot, she spent ages working on this! The look we have is now a lot more creative and dark and fantasy – esque. We will be drawing upon known horror themes and films as well as creating a vibe to reflect the special series and premieres on the channel that particular month. I’m very excited about the new studio and sophisticated look for the channel and I hope you love it too.

Long before The X-Files, long before 24, and at around the same time as The Prisoner, there was one show that dared to tackle the subject of "Is our Government lying to us" head on in a manner that was not only dignified but played totally straight; The Invaders.
Running for two seasons from 1967 to 1968, The Invaders was created by Larry Cohen, a man who had cut his writing teeth on classics such as The Fugitive and who would go on to carve a career as a cult movie favourite bringing fans movies such as It's Alive (1974), The Stuff (1985) and The Ambulance (1990).
With bold colours and the legendary line, "A Quinn Martin Production" proudly in place, The Invaders took the B-Movie ...SHARE: READ MORE Happy 30th Birthday Chucky!

When you were a child, did you ever think that your toys came to life when you were asleep? Or, did you even think they could come alive and gut you like a fish? This second idea is the premise behind Child's Play, one of the most successful slasher series of all time.
OK, the idea of a killer doll or toy wasn't new, one only has to look back at movies like Dead of Night (1945), Magic (1978), and The Pit (1981) and countless episodes from anthology shows, but the way Child's Play was done totally straight gave it that special edge over what had come before.
Written and directed by genre master Tom Holland, Child's Play was based on an idea from Don Mancini and quickly become a slasher f...SHARE: READ MORE Author and critic Kim Newman reflects on Horror Channel's Hammer Classics Season

Very few people could write about Hammer films with the credentials that Kim Newman has. He's an award-winning author, a highly respected critic, a noted journalist and talented broadcaster and his passion for cinema is known throughout the industry. Here he takes a look at Horror's Hammer Classics Season.
Into the polite grey world of 1950s British cinema burst lurid EastmanColor decadence. In Essoldos, Odeons and Classics up and down the country, screens that were dominated by well-mannered, stiff-upper lip characters - the repressed romantics of Brief Encounter or the staunch heroes of The Dam Busters - suddenly ran red with gore, and the flash of the scarlet lining of Dra...SHARE: READ MORE Top 10 Halloween hits
