Booth's Blog: Ditch The Passport With Tropical Terror!
By Emily Booth, Thursday 7th July 2016

Emily Booth Red JacketSummer is here, apparently, but before you give up on Britain and desperately search for your passport before booking a bucket holiday to Marbs, stop think and listen to Booth. Going on holiday is rarely a real holiday (especially with kids!) Invariably there’s delays, queues, dodgy food, dodgy stomach, sun burn, bad tans, walks of shame, shall I go on? But I don’t mean to be the voice of gloom! Far from it, for we at Horror have rustled up a whole season of movies that take you on a worldwide trip of holiday hell – well this is Horror after all. So get ready for sun sea and suspense!

First up, if there’s one film to sum up holiday horror I think it’s Jaws. The original summer blockbuster of 1975 Spielberg’s classic had people terrified just to put a toe in the water following it’s release. And for good reason! Shark attacks, albeit relatively rare are a very real threat and the top destination for this? Australia! The Reef (2010) follows a group of soon–to–be-fish food as they take a yacht out to the Great Barrier Reef, but when the boat capsizes they make the life or death decision to sink or swim. You know the rest! Beautifully shot with stunning underwater cinematography go on a deep sea dive without the fear of a huge bloodied gaping mouth with row upon row of sharp teeth lurking just beneath your feet ready to bite you in two….! Aghhhhhhh! The Reef gets its Network premiere this Friday 10.50pm.

The following Friday takes us to the jungles of Panama as hapless American tourists (they never fare well do they, perhaps it’s their inherent fear of travel/lack of passports?!) decide to visit an ‘off bounds’ spiritual waterfall deep in the jungle. When they find this special place the promised oasis is indeed breathtaking but beneath it’s beauty it hides a mythological beast! Prey a UK TV premiere Friday15th 10.50pm

The stunning Milla Jovovitch heads to the equally stunning Hawaii for our next descent into Tropical Terror in A Perfect Getaway. A dream honeymoon becomes a nightmare when the loved up couple trekking through harsh terrain come across odd couples that make them uncomfortable. It soon emerges tourists have been found dead with their teeth pulled out as ‘souvenirs’ – and the suspect? A young couple… Hmmmm, who is playing this deadly game of cat and mouse in this scary who dunnit? Jovovitch is excellent as ever in her ‘action horror’ role so join her on A Perfect Getaway, Friday 22nd July 10.50pm

Our final destination whisks us off to one of my favourite places; Thailand! Small wooden boats chug along serene rivers, dotted with rustic houses on stilts, Buddhists calmly chant in temples and fresh fruit grows on every street, simply beautiful. Or is it…?! For three young girls on a working holiday the beauty soon comes crashing down when they discover a strange life - like golden statue of a little girl in their house. When their behaviour begins to change and they suffer hallucinogenic dreams of witchcraft and murder, they go on a trail to uncover the truth behind the golden statue. A fun movie that takes all us travelers back to our favourite place! Pernicious concludes our Tropical Terror Season on Friday 29th July 10.45pm

Holidays and travel to foreign places essentially takes us out of our comfort zone where anything can happen. All we can do is put our trust in the locals, the country and their customs, and as we often learn, it’s often a world away from our own! Unless you just head to Marbs of course. Tropical Terror Season gets underway this Friday don’t miss it!

Twentieth Century Fox today revealed the poster, trailer and new stills for the eagerly anticipated Terminator: Dark Fate.

Director Tim Miller has said: "I remember watching T2 in Westwood when I had just moved to LA - it was an amazing experience. I was particularly stoked because Jim had done ALIENS a few years before and it is - hands down - my favorite action movie of all time. It blew my mind, as it was unlike any sci-film I had ever seen - it felt like a grounded, realistic and gritty future. And of course, T2 was just as amazing and continuing that franchise is more of an honor than I could ever imagine."
