Hammer To Return To Comics This Halloween
By James W, Saturday 20th February 2016
HammerTitanWe love Hammer movies here at Horror and are very excited to learn that beginning this Halloween, Titan Comics will team up with world-renowned Hammer to breathe new life into some of their iconic characters.

Founded in 1934, the legendary British studio Hammer Films produced hundreds of motion pictures across many genres including science fiction, psychological and supernatural thrillers, films noir and even historical epics. However, the famous brand gained its worldwide reputation – and became hugely impactful across popular culture – with an array of now-classic gothic horror films including The Quatermass Experiment, The Gorgon, The Devil Rides Out, and a string of motion pictures featuring iconic monsters Frankenstein, The Mummy and Dracula; the latter of which made its stars Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing into household names.

The quintessentially British Gothic aesthetic of these Hammer films, went on to inspire generations of filmmakers including Roger Corman, Tim Burton and Guillermo Del Toro, has left such an imprint on the genre that the term "Hammer Horror" became shorthand for a visual style consisting of creepy castles and boiling blood!

Since its rebirth in 2008, Hammer’s new film output has included the worldwide box office smash The Woman In Black and its sequel The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death – a global franchise born from Susan Hill’s celebrated gothic novella – as well as the critically lauded vampire film Let Me In, and folk horror Wake Wood, as well as the paranormal thriller The Quiet Ones.

Announced at ComicsPRO retailer summit in Portland, Oregon, the partnership will see the publication of brand-new comic stories featuring classic Hammer properties, as well as wholly original Hammer stories, produced by Titan.

Editor David Leach said, "at Titan Comics we're howling at the moon over this bold new collaboration! Hammer is the home of some of the most groundbreaking horror and genre films in motion picture history. Together we're going to make some terrifyingly good comics."

Fittingly, the creators and properties involved are still wreathed in shadow, and those interested in further news and developments on the initiative should join Titan Comics on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.

Nightmare Beach blu-ray cover

On October 22nd comes Rome-based bloodshed in the shape of Umberto Lenzi's legendary and never-before-available slice and dicer Nightmare Beach!

As any self-respecting horror-hound will know, Lenzi gave audiences some of the most notorious video nasties including his legendary gut-crunchers The Man From Deep River (1972) and Cannibal Ferox (1981). However, the maestro of macabre, stomach-churning images was rightly most proud of his giallo classics - most famously represented by the colourful intrigue of Spasmo (1974) and the gruelling gore of Eyeball (1975).

For Nightmare Beach, released in 1988, Lenzi would claim that a troubled production...

Two Evil Eyes Blu-ray cover

88 Films are giving another genre classic the special treatment on the 15th October, Two Evil Eyes (1990), the second collaboration (following the classic Dawn of the Dead) for directors Dario Argento (Suspiria) and the late, great George Romero (Creepshow).

This time around, the totemic twosome chose to adapt a story from the eerie oeuvre of Edgar Allan Poe. Make no mistake: the end result brings together the very best of the United States independent sector with the kingpin of things giallo - with Romero taking on the subtle chills of 'The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar' and Argento facing the claws and paws of 'The Black Cat'!

Park Circus is d be bringing The Evil Dead back to the big screen at selected cinemas across the UK this Halloween, in proud partnership with Sony Pictures Releasing.

Five friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons. Raimi's seminal horror made a cult icon of Bruce Campbell and turned its director into hot property. Much imitated, The Evil Dead was the birth of an independently-spirited, viscerally-minded new wave in low budget horror cinema.

The Evil Dead will be screening at selected cinemas from 31 October across the UK, including Cineworld, BFI Southbank, Tyneside Cinema, HOME Manchester and in selected internat...
