By James Whittington, Tuesday 22nd September 2015

The PossessionAll treats and no tricks… Horror Channel celebrates Halloween with a special Haunted Halloween Season, a spectral selection of movies which will take possession of the nation’s TVs every night for two weeks in October - from Saturday 17th to Saturday 31st all starting at 9pm.

Here is the full line-up:

In the Network Premiere of An American Haunting on October 17th the wind whispers ominous warnings of death before a malevolent entity arrives to claim the life of a young girl as director/writer Courtney Solomon brings author Brent Monahan's chilling, fact-based story of supernatural murder to the screen in this tale of terror starring Donald Sutherland, Sissy Spacek and James D’Arcy. There's a UK TV Premiere on the 18th where we witness a Dark Summer. From Paul Solet, director of the acclaimed hit Grace, comes this suspense thriller that focuses on a 17-year-old boy, Daniel, on house arrest for stalking, Mona, a female classmate online. He thinks he has piggybacked his neighbours' wireless signal but then things start to happen and feels a strange presence in the house.

Then on the 23rd October is the Network premiere of the suspenseful sequel Stir Of Echoes: The Homecoming on October 23rd. This movie stars Rob Lowe as National Guard Captain Ted Cogan, an Iraq War veteran whose past comes back to haunt him. After returning home from the line of duty, Cogan’s notion of his life returning back to normal is scuppered when he has visions of a group of innocent bystanders he inadvertently killed in Iraq. We visit a house that's had more than its fair share of nightmares on the 24th n the Network Premiere of Amityville 3. Investigative reporter John Baxter (Tony Roberts) buys a notorious house in the Long Island suburb of Amityville in an attempt to prove that stories about its being inhabited by demons are fraudulent. But soon his daughter, Susan (Lori Loughlin), and her friend Lisa (Meg Ryan) are experiencing inexplicable terrors, while his estranged wife, Nancy (Tess Harper), and supernatural expert Elliot West (Robert Joy) fear that the evil has begun to spread outside the house's walls.

An unmissable UK TV Premiere for you on Halloween itself in the acclaimed shocker The Possession (pictured). When their youngest daughter, Em (Natasha Calis), becomes strangely obsessed with an antique wooden box, parents Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm. However, Em becomes increasingly unstable, leading the couple to fear the presence of a malevolent force. To their horror, Clyde and Stephanie learn that the box contains a dybbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits, and ultimately devours, a human host.

Wishmaster - Blu-ray review

Vestron Series/Lionsgate

Certificate 18

Ahh, just imagine what could have been. Wishmaster had all the elements needed for the birth of a great horror franchise; a superb cast, a great story and just the right amount of respect for the horror genre. Then followed a trio of ever decreasingly poor sequels. But let's not dwell on those sloppy entries, let's just revel in this little horror gem (pun intended).

Magically powerful. Supernaturally evil. The ancient entity known in human legend as the Djinn can grant a person's wildest dreams. And in the process, it unleashes your darkest nightmares in the bloodiest way possible.

Though the premise is straig...

88 Films unleashes two terrifying treats in stunning HD restorations!
Posted in News, Tuesday 20th March 2018

Despite a street date of July 9th, Alfred Sole's sublime scare-fest Alice Sweet Alice is shipping from the 88 Films web site NOW! And that is not all they have planned this month as the old VHS favourite The Bone Yard makes a blistering comeback in horrific HD!

The slasher film phenomenon had barely begun to find its feet when, in 1976, New Jersey based director Alfred Sole (Pandemonium) put a definitive mark on the form with his timeless terror title Alice Sweet Alice. Pre-dating the groundbreaking girls-in-peril chills of John Carpenter's blockbuster Halloween, Sole's shocker tells of murder and mayhem in and out of a strict Catholic Church - and the killer happens to be clad in a pale white mask... ...

Terrifier - DVD review

"Coulrophobia: the fear of clowns."

There's been a spate of "killer clown" movies of late as well as that trend of people posting increasingly boring videos of themselves dressing up as clowns and scaring the crap out of people. After we've been treated to the Eli Roth produced Clown and the remake of IT, step forward a movie that truly does make clowns scary, Terrifier.

This is the story of the maniacal Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), who terrorizes three young women on Halloween, butchering everyone who stands in his way. In grand Halloween tradition, we see the night he came home in all its gory glory, in a pl...

Friendly Beast - FrightFest review
Posted in Frightfest, Reviews, Sunday 18th March 2018

Horror Channel FrightFest Glasgow was a true showcase for world cinema. One of the stand out pieces came from Gabriela Amaral Almeida who wrote and directed Friendly Beast, a film so visceral yet beautiful at the same time, it left an indelible mark on this reviewer's mind.

It's nearly closing time at a struggling restaurant. Staff want to go home while the boss struggles with money troubles and a desire for more power in his life. Enter two robbers, the catalyst for a violent situation, which the boss is initially able to contain and gain the upper hand. Suddenly, the already dangerous and explosive situation turns deadly; sides are taken, and people turn to the most abhorrent behaviour in an instant.

Interview with Richard Elliot, Managing Director of 88 Films
Posted in Interviews, Saturday 17th March 2018

Recently I've been lucky enough to review some rather tasty Blu-rays from 88 Films. This company has been behind amazing releases of titles such as A Cat in the Brain, Anthropophagous and Don't Go in the Woods...Alone. So I decided to chat to managing director Richard Elliot about 88 Films and how they survive in a cut-throat market.

HC: How did 88 Films start?

RE: 88 Films started after James and I met working for another label and it was the usual "we think we can do it better than the boss" scenario. So we slowly developed an idea of what we wanted to do after work down the pub and after lots of head scratching and pork scratchings and some setbacks BE Movies was born... which quickly became 88 Films...

Dario Argento's Tenebrae gets definitive vinyl release
Posted in News, Thursday 15th March 2018

Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the complete soundtrack vinyl release of Dario Argento's Tenebrae. Scored by three former members of Goblin in 1982 (Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli, and Massimo Morante), the synth driven score makes it's definitive and expanded vinyl debut. Waxwork is excited to offer the most comprehensive version of the soundtrack album on vinyl to one of the most important Giallo films ever made.

Unlike the soundtracks that Goblin had previously contributed to the films by Dario Argento, the music of Tenebrae incorporates heavy electronica and dance music blended with rock and disco elements for a unique hybrid of genre and composition style.

Extensive usage of early an...
