Hubert's Ghost Pre-Production Blog
By Joe Staszkiewicz, Monday 16th February 2015

Firstly, I should do a brief introduction of who I am and why this blog is relevant to the Horror Channel. My name is Joe and alongside my brother, Lloyd, I wrote and directed a short film called Hubert’s Ghost. This film went on to win the 2014 Shortcuts to Hell competition which was hosted by the Horror Channel. The prize for winning was the opportunity to make a feature film based on the short film, with a minimum production budget of £20,000.

You can view the short film below but since the competition ended, back in October 2014, we’ve been working pretty hard on the film, which will be called Hubert’s Ghost. Lots and lots and lots of planning. This is essential with any film but perhaps more so when you have a small budget. Although £20,000 may seem like a lot, in film making terms, it’s not. To put it in perspective, The Blair Witch Project supposedly had $750,000 to get produced. We have 0.007% of the budget of the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean film, which is apparently the most expensive ever made. Admittedly we haven’t cast Johnny Depp (yet) and we don’t have any epic sea battles in our script.

We do hope to levitate a few objects though. And we’re hoping to cast some of our friends who we can guilt trip into using all their holiday time to help us out. We do that a lot. I’d like to think we offer a lot of fun times in return, but I’m sure that assumption is way off the mark. I’m writing the film alongside my brothers and at the moment we’re still polishing up the script. We’ve been having regular meetings with two of the competition organisers, John Shackleton (Movie Mogul) and Jesse Cleverly (Wildseed Studios). They both have a great pedigree in film making and have offered us some great advice and guidance along the way.

Shooting HUBERT'S GHOST

I realise this blog doesn’t go into a lot of detail with regards to the pre-production process but in all honesty, the writing stage isn’t the most interesting. It basically involves sitting at a computer in a room by yourself, typing a lot and experiencing a cycle of happiness and misery. If you’ve ever written anything, you’ll know exactly what I mean. I’m really enjoying the process though and it’s exciting to know that sooner or later we’ll be shooting Hubert’s Ghost.

Oh, and I bought two guinea pigs. They’ve taken residency in my office and are great for keeping me company during the hours of isolation. Their names are Spiker and Stretcher.

Tiny Tim delivers a Blood Harvest in HD
Posted on Saturday 10th February 2018

On 12th March, 88 Films will release one of the most fan-demanded slice and dice obscurities from the proverbial VHS vaults of throat-cutting carnage - Bill Rebane's 1987 shocker, Blood Harvest.

Unleashed at a time when the slasher movie was awash with sequels, Blood Harvest stood out thanks to a lunatic performance from Tiny Tim (the legendary American television personality).

Featuring a masked man on the rampage, twists and turns that will keep you glued to the gore and a final reel that packs in plenty of sadism and shocks, Blood Harvest has never been seen in the UK on DVD, though it did have a short life on VHS before sinking into unfortunate obscurity. Thanks to 88 Films it finally gets the...
