LATEST | FEATURES | INTERVIEWS | NEWS | FRIGHTFEST | REVIEWS Reece Shearsmith Horror Short, Him Indoors To Receive World Premiere At FrightFest The 13th
By James Whittington, Monday 13th August 2012
James Pears and Kesslerboy Productions Ltd. have announced that Him Indoors, a short black comedy/horror film starring Reece Shearsmith and Pollyanna McIntosh will get it's World Premiere screening at FrightFest The 13th on Monday August 27th, before the European premier of The Possession at 6.15pm.
The film, the first narrative piece from writer/director Paul Davis, tells of an agoraphobic serial killer (Shearsmith), who's, rather grisly, activities are interrupted when his boisterous new neighbour (McIntosh) decides to pop round for a quick cup of tea.
"The whole film is like a dark little joke", explains Psychoville star Shearsmith; "a serial murderer who can't go outside is an interesting premise. We meet him just as his plight is getting out of control, as he doesn't see the threat of his eager next door neighbour until its too late. It was a joy to play."
Playing opposite Reece Shearsmith is a young lady who blew FrightFest audiences away last year with her stunningly savage performance in Lucky McKee's The Woman, Pollyanna McIntosh. "I'm always inspired by an ambitious shoestring team of talent but doing Him Indoors was pure playtime for me: openly collaborative; assured and opposite a hilarious, brilliant kook Ive admired for years; I can't wait to watch it with the wild FrightFest audience."
Co-Director of Film4 FrightFest Paul McEvoy, had this to say about screening the short, "Film 4 FrightFest World Premiered Paul Davis' superb and award winning documentary feature Beware The Moon in 2009. We could not be more delighted to be doing the same for his terrific first fictional foray into the genre with Him Indoors."
"It's a stylish debut with two fantastic central performances from Reece Shearsmith and Pollyanna McIntosh." McEvoy added. "This marks Paul as an exciting talent to watch and we are thrilled to be welcoming both him and the cast back to the festival for this special screening."
"Him Indoors is a labour of love; an idea that has been nesting in my brain for at least fifteen-years." Said Writer/Director, Paul Davis. "I'm so pleased that we were able to bring it to life with such a wonderful cast and crew and that my OTHER family at FrightFest will get to see it first! It's a fun, VERY dark, little piece. Both Reece and Pollyanna really light up the screen. I was mesmerised by them the whole time. My producer, James Pears (The Other Side), and I are just so proud that we're able to present the film literally 6-weeks after we started work on it."
Shearsmith added, "It's amazing to have the film showing at FrightFest, and ironically quite terrifying! The audience are discerning, dedicated lovers of the much maligned Horror genre; sometimes as brutal as many of the films on offer, but also incredibly supportive at the same time. So it's undoubtedly a great honour to have Him Indoors premiere at such a passionate festival. I think it's the perfect place to present Paul Davis' horrible little baby to the world!"
