Bark at the moon this February on Horror
By James Whittington, Friday 26th January 2018

Horror is taking you deep into the woods during February with a selection of movies that celebrate the finest of fearsome flicks all about Lycanthropy, Season of the Wolf. Each Saturday at 10.55pm we're bringing you tales of terror that are dripping with blood and will have you barking at the moon with delight.

The season starts on the 3rd as Dee Wallace, Christopher Stone, Patrick Macnee and John Carradine battle a brutal beast in Joe Dante's superb feature, The Howling. A female reporter is attacked by a notorious serial killer and to get over her trauma she is sent to 'The Colony', a remote mountain resort. But there her problems really begin, as the residents are werewolves. We bring you contemporary horror on the 10th with a UK TV premiere of a festival favourite, Late Phases. Crescent Bay is not the best place to live out one's golden years. Once an idyllic retirement community, the gated hamlet has been beset by mysterious deadly attacks. So when blind war veteran Ambrose McKinley (Nick Damici) moves in, the residents are put off by his abrasive personality. But it's his grizzled take-no-prisoners attitude that's needed to survive the sinister secret that the tight-knit neighbourhood is harbouring.

If you like your werewolves to have a less serious side then don't miss WolfCop on the 17th. Lou Garou (get it?) is a lazy, alcoholic cop by day, and a violent, crime-fighting werewolf by night with a new found sense of duty to uphold. Overnight, the small rural town of Woodhaven has a new lycanthropic hero and he's determined to become a better policeman... one full moon transformation at a time. This is a classic and well worth getting your friends around to enjoy together.

Another UK TV premiere on the 24th, Paul Hyett's acclaimed movie, Howl. Young ambitious ticket collector Joe (Ed Speleers) is overseeing the last train out of London on a dark and stormy night. Suddenly the train screeches to a halt in a forest after hitting something on the tracks, but the investigating driver never returns. Realising an unknown and dangerous threat is lurking in the woods, the disparate group of strangers aboard must work together in order to survive a common feral enemy.

Check below for tasty tease and don't miss Season of the Wolf from the 3rd here on Horror.

Certificate 15

88 Films continues to search out for forgotten shockers for their Slasher Collection and this time has unearthed a truly cheesy piece from 1989, Darkroom. Being produced by Nico Mastorakis, the guy who gave the world the censor bothering shocker Island of Death you'd expect it to be a wild and unflinching slasher. Instead, we get an above average slice and dice flick with plenty of set-ups but more considerate on the bloodletting.

The film begins with a brutal double axe slaying by an unknown murderer but who could this mad killer be? Why does he photograph his victims as they die? Most of all, what drives them to kill?

Trying to track her down he's involved in an incident and loses his sight, but medics can't understand how it's happened as his eyes have suffered no damage. Luckily, he's soon equipped with state-of-the-art technology (a zipped-up Walkman!) which par...

Ahead of the release of his first album of non-soundtrack music in nearly five years, John Carpenter has shared a final pre-release single and accompanying video.

Following the stomping "Weeping Ghost" and dancefloor-ready "The Dead Walk," new single "Alive After Death" is a brooding, suspense-filled track, perfectly embodying the exhilarating, spine-chilling, story-telling soundtracks that Carpenter is famous for.
