Beasts, Nazis And Dead Hookers - July On The Horror Channel
By James Whittington, Wednesday 15th June 2011

Emily Booth Green DressJuly is an incredibly busy month here at the Horror Channel and we have a shed-load of premieres for you, all with one thing in common, Emily Booth is introducing them! Yes folks Emily will be in The Horror Booth for a block-bursting run of fast, funny and fear-filled intros. The month is overflowing with movie legends, buckets of blood and lashings of gore, here's a quick look at the movies she'll be introducing:

The Blood Beast Terror – Friday 1st July
A true classic of its era, Vernon Sewell's The Blood Beast Terror boasts a cast which includes Peter Cushing, Robert Flemyng and the beautiful Wanda Ventham. A scientist unwittingly creates a creature that transforms from a beautiful woman who no man can resist into a giant, and blood-lusting, Dead Head moth.

Doomwatch – Friday 8th July
More classic chills this time of the ecological kind when Doomwatch comes to the Horror Channel. Directed by Peter Sasdy it concerns the waters surrounding a remote island which have been contaminated by chemical dumping. Anyone eating fish from the area are transformed into deformed murderous maniacs.

The Incredible Melting Man – Saturday 9th July
If you prefer your horror to be of the gooey kind then The Incredible Melting Man is for you. When an astronaut returns from an ill-fated space voyage he turns into a gelatinous humanoid mass with an uncontrollable appetite for human flesh. Directed by William Sachs, the man who also gave us the unforgettable Galaxina, this is a classic from the 1970s and perfect Saturday night in film fun.

Puppet Master: Axis Of Evil – Friday 15th
We come bang up to date with Puppet Master: Axis Of Evil, This wartime instalment of the long-running horror series concerns a man who is desperate to join the war effort but uncovers a Nazi plot and takes up arms in the shape of deadly living puppets to fight the Axis forces. This is the tenth movie in the popular franchise and proves that the marionette’s of mayhem have lost none of their inventive murdering ways.

Nazi Dawn – Saturday 16th
Cinema legend Lance Henriksen heads the cast of the Roel Reine’s Nazi Dawn. When the crew of a WW2-era ship are killed a team is sent to investigate a possible terrorist threat. However, they find a far more deadly foe.

House Of A Thousand Dolls – Friday 22nd
House Of A Thousand Dolls is an incredibly sinister and atmospheric chiller that stars another cinematic legend, Vincent Price. A vacationing couple in Tangiers become caught up with a nightclub magician and his mentalist cohort who hypnotize women and spirit them away to slavery.

The Borrower – Saturday 23rd
A personal favourite of mine, this classic from 1991 stars old Huggy Bear himself Antonio Fargas. In The Borrower a violent alien is punished by being sent to Earth in the guise of a human, but when its body is damaged it must kill to gruesomely obtain replacement parts.

Dead Hooker In A Trunk – Friday 29th
Twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska are behind the brutal and shocking independent flick Dead Hooker In A Trunk, which must earn itself the “It Does Exactly What It Says” title of the month. The movie concerns four disparate friends, the Badass, the Geek, the Goody Two Shoes and the Junkie face a fight for their lives when a dead hooker is inexplicably found in their car.

All movies start at 21:00 apart from The Borrower and Dead Hooker In A Trunk which start at 22:55.

Shameless Entertainment
Certificate 18
****

Also known as Aquarius, Deliria and Bloody Bird, Michele Soavi's bold directorial debut Stagefright finally gets the Shameless treatment. Released at the backend of the slasher trend this 1987 effort takes the genre in a far more artistic direction than most of the era and stands up to close scrutiny to this day. More recent movies such as Halloween (2018) and Climax (2018) seems to have taken some themes from this which is a fine reminder of why slasher movies don't just start and end with the more famous franchises.

When a masked killer infiltrates a group of actors rehearsing overnight in an isolated theatr...
