By Emily Booth, Thursday 20th July 2017
As many of you are no doubt aware, one of Europe's biggest horror film festivals, Horror Channel FrightFest, descends upon London's Leicester Square over the August Bank Holiday weekend. For 5 days, every fear, phobia and nightmare is dissected in new and horrifying ways in a festival that handpicks the very best in global horror, both big and low budget - high and low brow! It's all there and so will I be, presenting Facebook Live events and chatting to anyone I can get my claws on! I'm sure I'll see many of my faithful fans over the weekend, but to celebrate and give our beloved viewers at home the festival experience we present FrightFest Season; a retrospective of double bills over thirteen nights, featuring an amazingly diverse collection of films that have made a big impact at FrightFest over the last few years.
It all kicks off on Friday August 18th at 9pm with the UK TV premiere of 'big cat scares with a twist' in X-Moor. The other big unmissable highlights in this stunning season of horror include the UK TV premieres of British pagan horror Cherry Tree, Hangman starring Kate Ashfield, insane Kiwi death metal zom-com-romp Deathgasm, Eli Roth's gruesome homage to Cannibal Holocaust, The Green Inferno, and British theological chiller Afterdeath. I will be introducing these double bills alongside FrightFest organisers and all round horror experts Alan Jones, Ian Rattray, Paul McEvoy and Greg Day, so if you can't make it to FrightFest itself, just make it to your sofa. I love getting your thoughts and feedback so please feel free to tweet me at twitter.com/emmybooth.
In the meantime, however, there are still lots of top film premieres every weekend on Horror to keep your dark side sated, and this Saturday sees an inventive take on the found footage horror in an American demonic thriller from 2014. A grieving man left sceptical over the existence of God or the afterlife sets out to prove one way or another the truth about all things supernatural. He embarks upon a very hands-on documentary, where he offers his body, mind and soul up to various practitioners of the occult - mediums, demonologists, angel whisperers, you name it - in a bid to capture on camera any kind of evidence. Though his initial angle is to disprove the whole practice as a sham, it soon becomes apparent that he must not only believe, but he must change. For he has allowed a dangerous force into his life, and the Devil is about to have a little fun of his own...
So look out for Frightfest Season on Horror Channel next month, but in the meantime, catch the network premiere of The Possession Of Michael King, this Saturday at 11pm.

Also known as Aquarius, Deliria and Bloody Bird, Michele Soavi's bold directorial debut Stagefright finally gets the Shameless treatment. Released at the backend of the slasher trend this 1987 effort takes the genre in a far more artistic direction than most of the era and stands up to close scrutiny to this day. More recent movies such as Halloween (2018) and Climax (2018) seems to have taken some themes from this which is a fine reminder of why slasher movies don't just start and end with the more famous franchises.
