By Emily Booth, Thursday 30th March 2017

Meet Duncan, a lovely man with a lovely wife who's beginning to feel the pressures of modern life manifesting into some kind of irritable bowel syndrome. The ultrasound reveals he has a 'polyp' stuck up there, or, as the doctor so delicately puts it, a 'Trooper in your pooper,' due to poor stress management - or so they think. The doctor's orders are 'No more stress,' which is easier said than done when his latest job description involves firing his colleagues at work. Additionally, at home the pressure is on to make an actual real life baby so his wife can be the one in the doctor's chair. Cue the stress, along with the funniest, grossest toilet moment in movie history, for there is no mere polyp residing in Duncan's butt, but a fully blown real life 'stress-demon' - one that bursts out from said butt in order to exact revenge on Duncan's behalf on all those responsible for his mounting stress.
This not only a 21st century horror for dealing with the very current themes of anxiety due to mortgages, job security and fertility, but also for being a very metrosexual horror! Usually it's women taking the starring role in such horrors, be it in film or real life! Pregnancy, invasive examinations, painful birth, post-natal depression...
You name it, we're the ones feeling the pain, and films have dabbled in such themes for decades from Rosemary's Baby to Alien. But not this time! It's Daddy's turn to open wide and birth a monster. YES, finally, a little empathy here! This movie also has something for the male audience to finally relate to - for this is a man who loves his wife, but secretly is scared of starting a family, being a good father and bonding with the child. There are some more serious emotions touched upon here, but it's not long before 'bottom humour' rears its demonic little head and we're treated to another 'birth by butt' nugget of comedy gold.
The demon itself is a cross between a Critter and a Gremlin, with big black eyes and gnashing teeth. Thankfully it's powered by real animatronics and puppetry over pointless CGI, giving this film a real retro feel that also reminded me a lot of the black comedies of Frank Henenlotter.
This truly is a fantastic Friday night piece of pulp fiction that may see poor old Duncan be the butt of all jokes, but somehow manages to be truly disgusting, hilarious, and charming all at once.
Bad Milo! makes its UK TV Premiere this Friday 31st March at 11.20pm.

Issued on limited edition white vinyl is Max Richter's emotive and minimal score to Damon Lindelof's TV series The Leftovers which is about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world's population disappears without explanation. Richter's approach explores the feelings of the protagonist's family, the Garveys, through intimate, small-scale music.
He tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta.
Max Richter is a classically trained composer that defies bo...
