Booth's Blog: Open House
By Emily Booth, Friday 28th July 2017

Don't open your door to Tricia Helfer...!

Oh yes, any "Battlestar Galactica" fans out there will be seeing our Tricia in a very different light this Saturday night on Horror when she swaps her sexy Cylon 'Number Six' look for that of a psychosexual killer in the network premiere of Open House.

Seen as one of the sexiest women in sci-fi, she definitely indulges her darker side in this home invasion horror where quite a few other familiar faces pop up, before they get the chop. Alice (Rachel Blanchard) is putting her beautiful home on the market following a bitter divorce with Josh (Stephen Moyer), but unwittingly attracts a sadistic couple into her life; David (Brian Geraghty) and Lila (Tricia Helfer). After Lila seduces and then kills the estate agent, this leaves David to finish off Alice when she returns home and, hey presto, they've got a swish new pad to play their twisted little lurve games in. That was the plan, however David decides to keep poor Alice alive, and ties her up in her own basement unbeknownst to Lila. The strange couple - on the pretence that they are the new owners - invite various neighbours around, relishing the fake veneer of domestic bliss before offing them in various bloody ways, including Alice's ex-husband in a scene reminiscent of Basic Instinct's psychosexual killings... You'll also see real life couple Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (who frankly don't last long here), but when you realise Open House is actually the movie debut of Anna's real life brother, Andrew Paquin, it's clear they are on 'mate rates' and enjoying the carnage in more cameo roles. But it's Tricia Helfer, who simply oozes the highly strung femme fatale, who's a delight to watch here.

Also, a little titbit for "Flight of the Conchords" fans (how can you not be one of those?); the film stars Rachel Blanchard as Alice, whom many will remember fondly as 'The Most Beautiful Girl in The Room'... Or in this case, the basement.

With knife fetish going on upstairs and bondage below stairs there's a lot happening in this psychological thriller which comes to a head when Lila learns that David has kept Alice alive as his new plaything... So be careful who you invite into your home, or better still, don't even put it up for sale! The market it ruthless these days...

OPEN HOUSE has its network premiere on Horror this Saturday 29th July at 10:45pm

Dick-esque imaginings, The Breach is genre-bending, pageturning read that aptly demonstrates why Hill is one of today's most exciting new voices in weird fiction.

Freya Medlock, a reporter at her local paper, is down on her luck and chasing a break. When she's assigned to cover the death of a young climber named Stephen, she might just have the story she needs. Digging into Stephen's life, Frey...
