LATEST | FEATURES | INTERVIEWS | NEWS | FRIGHTFEST | REVIEWS Booth's Blog: SCTH2 Winner Announced!
By Emily Booth, Thursday 9th October 2014
So last night, in a dark underground members club, my latest Horror Channel duty as ambassador for the channel was to host the Shortcuts To Hell 2 party where the winner of this prestigious film competition was to be announced.
Bleary eyed and tired after an exciting albeit tense evening I’m slowly recovering and hoping the winners are still pinching themselves – they certainly were on the night! We had three lovely and well deserving final films; Geoffrey’s Heart, a film I was championing as you can see from my selfie with the director Stanislava Buevich, Hubert’s Ghost and All Inclusive. After public voting on Facebook came to a close at exactly 9pm last night, there were only 18 votes between the winner and runner up – so tight! But the fabulous Holomax boys Joe and Lloyd Staszkiewicz scooped the coveted prize of a minimum £20,000 towards turning Hubert’s Ghost into a fully-fledged feature film with production guidance and assistance from Wildseed Studios and Movie Mogul starting today! How exciting – it’s the Dragons Den of Horror! Hubert’s Ghost will receive UK digital distribution, its world premiere at Film4 FrightFest 2015, and a broadcast premiere on Horror Channel. A total career game changer for Joe and Lloyd Stas. I expect big things from these lovely boys! Lloyd was so nervous last night and was on the phone to his brother Joe who was – for some reason in Disneyland Florida at time, living it large on Space Mountain. What a rush! Lloyd was incredibly courteous to the other contenders, genuinely wishing them well and to go ahead and make their features anyway, which I hope they do.
This competition strives to find the next Del Torro, Raimi or Jackson. We know original ideas are out there and sometimes all people need is to be believed in - as well as a nice cash injection!, both of which Horror Channel, Movie Mogul, Frightfest and Wildseed Studios are willing to give.
So watch this space for more news and updates on this exciting new project.
And hey if you’re feeling inspired then you may as well get your directorial caps on and start thinking about that big idea as we’re hoping this comp will return in the future and you want to be ready to shout Action when we do.
OK, time to nurse my head.

The 1950s are remembered as the rock 'n' roll years - Bill Haley and Elvis, Little Richard and Chuck Berry - but also as the dawn of the atomic era, the height of the cold war, and the decade when science fiction movies reigned. A fad for futuristic design meant cars sported sharkfins like Flash Gordon's spaceship, and refrigerators were streamlined behemoths like the lumbering robots of pulp magazines. It was an uneasy, nervous decade - caught between optimism and terror, envisioning future homes full of gleaming labour-saving devices but also beasts from outer space or the dawn of time rampaging across the land, leaving radioactive debris in their wake. At the end of the classic The Thing From Another World (1951), ...SHARE: READ MORE Horror Channel has such sights to show you with broadcast of Hellraiser Trilogy
