The last few years has seen a resurrection of genre favourites such as Halloween, Child's Play (and the Chucky TV series), Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters to name a few, and although Scream has already had a successful TV series the studio bosses decided that it was time for Ghostface to come back to the big screen.

Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a terrifying new killer resurrects the Ghostface mask. As the deaths mount, Woodsboro's new targets must seek help from the survivors of the original Ghostface attacks. Now, only Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), former sheriff Dewey Riley (David Arquette), and reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) can find a way to stop the killer when everyone is a suspect.

After the rather poor entries of parts 3 and 4, this version of Scream had to do something really special and on the whole the movie does really deliver. The script is layered with nods to the whole slasher genre, the hack n' slash moments are more bloody and violent, and the direction from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett is assured and confident. It's also more self-referential (or should I say meta?) than the others in this franchise but it also has more humour than what has gone before.

The young cast go through the motions of dodging red herrings and jump scares with slightly more self-awareness than the original run of movies and enjoy rubbing current technology into the faces of the older members of the cast.

Talking of which, the return of "legacy characters" (hands up who hates this term) adds to the fun, hey it wouldn't be the same without them would it and help bridge the generation gap having people explain terms such a "requal" which is something I will never use, ever again. There are some cool twists which I won't reference here but it will come as no shock that Scream 6 is being greenlit as I type.

Extras on the disc includes Filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, New Blood documentary, Bloodlines documentary, In the Shadow of the Master documentary and Scream 1996 trailer. As a note best not to view the docs before watching the movie as they do give away a lot of the plot.

Scream is a fun return to form for the franchise and filled with subtle details that make it fun to watch two or three times so you can appreciate the effort which has gone into it.

Originally released on the 31st of July 2015, the vinyl edition of John Carpenter's classic 1981 thriller, Escape from New York mirrored the expanded CD release from 2000, with over 20 minutes of previously unreleased music plus music from scenes deleted from the final print and original dialogue highlights.

The masters for that CD were re-mixed from the original multi-track session tapes by long-time Carpenter associate Alan Howarth making it a true unmissable release.

Silva Screen Records will re-release this score on red vinyl for the first time on May 27th.

Richter's approach explores the feelings of the protagonist's family, the Garveys, through intimate, small-scale music.

He tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta.
