Soundtrack Legend Fabio Frizzi To Perform Live On Halloween In London
By James Whittington, Thursday 3rd October 2013

Fabio Frizzi PosterSMALLDeath Waltz Recording Company and Paint It Black are proud to present Fabio Frizzi live for his first ever UK show to be held at The Union Chapel on October 31st. The perfect setting will play host to Frizzi, accompanied by his 7-piece band and with an additional string section (the F2F Orchestra), for what promises to be a very special evening’s performance and master-class in soundtrack composition. Rather than performing individual tracks from his catalogue, Frizzi will be presenting his works in newly commissioned suites, which he is currently finishing back in Rome with the F2F Orchestra.

Through the superb reissue work of labels like Death Waltz, Italian soundtracks are becoming extremely sought after and essential recordings to own, recognized for their incredible dimensions of sound. From the early 1960s through to the early 1980s, and helped by its own burgeoning domestic film industry, Italy was home to some of the finest soundtrack composers to have graced the genre. Names like Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Berto Pisano, Gianni Ferrio, Stelvio Cipriani, Armando Trovaoli, Riz Ortolani, Piero Piccioni and Alessandro Alessandroni were the forefathers who set out their creative stall, recording some incredible works that merged jazz, baroque, classical, rock, lounge, funk, psychedelia, and deep electronica, turning the soundtrack into a truly beautiful art form.

Fabio Frizzi would join that illustrious list of composers after cementing his reputation as one of the undisputed masters of Italian horror soundtracks, best known for his scores to the great Italian film director Lucio Fulci’s seminal late 70s/early 80s blood soaked epics such as Seven Notes In Black/Sette Note In Nero, The Beyond, Zombi 2/Zombie Flesh Eaters, City Of The Living Dead and Manhattan Baby. Frizzi’s progressive, dark, brooding scores are cherished among fans all over the world, the music added a sonic richness to Fulci’s dreamlike visuals and they sound as disturbingly brilliant today as they did when first released.

Other notable Frizzi scores include Contraband (1980), Four Of The Apocalypse (1976) and another Fulci collaboration, the spaghetti western Silver Saddle (1978). Fabio Frizzi’s works have long been admired by a wide range of musicians and film directors alike. From Boards of Canada who, in a recent interview with The Guardian, cited Frizzi as a major influence on their latest album Tomorrow’s Harvest, through to Quentin Tarantino who deployed the theme music from Seven Notes In Black in Kill Bill Vol 1 Frizzi’s scores are dramatic works of art. On playing his first show in the Capital, Fabio Frizzi said, “It’s like an old dream come true… playing a magical location such as the Union Chapel on such a symbolic date – Halloween! And my themes, which have been resting in the microgrooves of vinyl for so long, will be coming back to life, just like the characters in so many Lucio Fulci movies. I’m looking forward to it very much.”

Tickets are priced at £20 and can be purchased from here.
